The Web Page Box Model

All web page elements have boxes. Boxes have borders. Padding refers to the space inside of borders. By default, widths and heights only pertain to content.  Block elements, such as divisions and paragraphs, default to the maximum possible width. Inline elements, such as images and links, default to the minimum possible width.
